Ford and Telenav Offer Navigation without Cell Service

As handy as the GPS navigation on our phones is, there is not always cell service to keep the information flowing when you are far-off the beaten path. To help drivers get where they need to go when adventuring outside cell service areas, Ford and Telenav are offering a navigation solution for SYNC 4, which is available in the new F-150 and Bronco.

The hybrid navigation system works smoothly whether you have cell service or not and can continue to give maps and directions thanks to maps stored in the system’s memory. And when you have a cellular data connection, you also get all the benefits of real-time services like traffic data, giving you the best of both worlds.

This navigation system also can give specialized routing options for customers who are towing a trailer or going off-roading. For those towing a trailer, the system will give the best route based on the dimensions of the trailer and avoid sharp turns, narrow bridges, and low overpasses. The 4×4 trail maps give off-road enthusiasts more information than you would typically get in a standard navigation app.

In everyday driving, the navigation system can give all kinds of time and money-saving information. It will help you find cheap and available parking, highly rated restaurants in your area, low gas prices and much more. Plus, all of these capabilities can be easily accessed via voice commands with SYNC 4’s digital voice assistant.

Ford’s Next Generation SYNC 4 System Unveiled

Ford has announced the next generation of its SYNC infotainment system that is easier to use and faster than ever, with new features to help drivers stay safe and connected. Some highlighted new features of SYNC 4 include cloud-based navigation with traffic information, digital owners manuals and wireless compatibility for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In addition to new features and capabilities, SYNC 4 includes an updated design and interface, with the ability to change depending on the vehicle, the screen size and what the driver wants to see. Ford has said multi-tasking will be easier than ever, with information available to be viewed quickly without having to swap between multiple screens.

Screen sizes for cars equipped with SYNC 4 range from 8 inches to 15.5 inches, and there are different ways information is displayed depending on the screen size. These new displays are combined with optional FordPass Connect with 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot functionality to make driving while staying connected even easier.

SYNC 4 also features improved voice-recognition technology, with the ability to understand more natural requests and provide accurate suggestions. Machine learning capabilities also allow for SYNC 4 to make suggestions based on your previous behavior and frequently contacted people.

An all-digital owner’s manual makes finding the information you need easier, with a searchable database, streamable how-to videos for common features and more in-depth information for certain items.
