Why the 2020 Ford Super Duty is Best-in-Class

When it comes to delivering high-quality and capable trucks to the most demanding customers in the business, Ford is the clear choice. Ford has once again improved the F-Series Super Duty line of heavy-duty pickup trucks for the 2020 model year, earning best-in-class ratings in several important metrics.

“Ford truck customers are building a better world with Super Duty and we’re helping them work even harder with the most available diesel towing, payload, torque and power you can get in a heavy-duty pickup,” said Mike Pruitt, Super Duty chief engineer.

With significant upgrades and an all-new available engine, the new 2020 Ford Super Duty can claim six best-in-class heavy-duty pickup truck claims for full-size trucks over 8,500 pounds.

  • Best-in-class maximum available diesel gooseneck towing of up to 37,000 pounds
  • Best-in-class maximum available diesel fifth-wheel towing of 32,500 pounds
  • Best-in-class maximum available diesel conventional towing of 24,200 pounds
  • Best-in-class diesel power and torque with available 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8 with 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque
  • Best-in-class gas power and torque from all-new available 7.3-liter V8 with 430 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque

All-New Engine Available for Ford Super Duty Trucks

Ford is introducing an all-new 7.3-liter V8 engine for the Super Duty lineup of heavy-duty pickup trucks that offers more power, torque and capability. The new gasoline engine makes a best-in-class 430 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque and comes paired with Ford’s new 10-speed TorqShift automatic transmission.

None of the Super Duty competitors offer such an advanced engine in as wide a variety of heavy-duty trucks, ranging from the Class 2 Super Duty pickups to the Class 7 commercial trucks. The 7.3-liter engine joins the existing 6.2-liter gasoline V8 and 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8, letting buyers choose which engine is best for their needs.

“The 7.3-liter is designed for maximum durability in the harshest environments given that our customers live and work in these conditions every day,” said Joel Beltramo of Ford. “This engine has the largest displacement in its class and is designed to provide benefits in key areas like power, durability, ease of maintenance and total operating costs.”

2020 Ford Super Duty Tremor Off-Road Package

For truck owners who want even more off-road capability for their heavy-truck, Ford is offering the 2020 Ford F-Series Super Duty with an all-new Tremor Off-Road Package. This new package allows the Super Duty to handle all kinds of rough terrain, while still providing more towing and payload capacity than competitors like the Ram Power Wagon.

“A growing number of Super Duty customers use their trucks for more than work,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager. “They’re fishing, camping and towing boats on weekends and the go off-road, so we designed this truck specifically for them.”

The Super Duty with the Tremor Off-Road Package gives drivers more ground clearance, as well as bigger shocks, bigger tires, a locking rear differential, beefy skid plates and more off-road capability. All of these off-road ready upgrades don’t hurt towing and payload ratings for the Super Duty either, so you can still do all of the work you need.

The Tremor Off-Road Package is available for F-250 and F-350 models, and can be had in XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum trim levels. Engine options are either a 7.3-liter gas V8 or a 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel. All Tremor Super Duty trucks are 4×4 single-rear-wheel models with the SuperCrew cab and 6.75-foot box.

Selectable drive modes give customers more options depending on weather and road conditions, and include normal, tow/haul, eco, slippery for ice and deep snow/sand for low traction conditions. The 2020 Super Duty with the Tremor Off-Road Package also gets a standard 10-speed automatic transmission and Trail Control.

2020 Ford F-Series Super Duty Gets Big Upgrades

Ford has raised the bar once again with the 2020 F-Series Super Duty line of heavy-duty pickup trucks. The 2020 Ford Super Duty will offer its highest-ever towing and payload ratings, as well as new engine options and class-exclusive technology. Houston Ford Super Duty buyers will love the new upgrades.

“Super Duty customers have demanding and diverse needs – from towing heavy trailers to repairing critical infrastructure,” said Kumar Galhotra, Ford president, North America. “Our new Super Duty has more power, more payload and towing capability and better technology than ever to help these customers build a better world.”

All-new for 2020 is a Ford-built 7.3-liter V8 that joins the standard 6.2-liter V8, giving truck buyers two gasoline-powered options. The third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8 has also been upgraded with more power and torque and comes standard with the 10-speed heavy-duty TorqShift automatic transmission.

The 2020 Ford Super Duty also receives Pro Trailer Backup Assist for the first time, which makes it easier to backup large trailers into tight spaces. Drivers can use a dash-mounted knob to steer the trailer via the reverse camera with their hands off the wheel. The system works with conventional, gooseneck and fifth-wheel trailer styles.

Additional upgrades for the 2020 Super Duty include standard FordPass Connect with 4G LTE and Wi-Fi, wireless charging, USB-C ports and a variety of advanced active safety features. The styling of the Super Duty has been upgraded with a new front-end design, and interiors of certain trim levels have been updated with new designs and premium materials throughout.
